Well, I never did get around to finding time to update the last bit of our trip. Suffice to say it was fabulous and involved good food, good fun, and many new and exciting places.
The next adventure also involves haring off to another country, this time on a more permanent basis.
London! This morning I arrived in London with too much luggage to be healthy >.> But arrive I did!
It was strange leaving the states this time. Traveling to Europe is something I have become familiar with, but I've always left with the knowledge that in a couple months time I would once more be in the States with friends and family. This time I left without a clear idea of when I might return, which made departing a bittersweet experience. I am most excited to embark on a new academic undertaking, and I love working in conservation. But I will very much miss being able to see friends and family with ease.
After battling through traffic from the airport I made it to the hostel I will be staying in until I can move into student accommodations, and from there set out to retrieve my biometric resident permit.
It took some doing, but I am officially legally allowed to stay! Aaaand then it started to rain. I scurried back to the hostel and have been holed up hiding from the rain for the afternoon. There is definitely exploring in my future, but also definitely on a less jet-laggy, rainy sort of day.
Rain or no, the cool weather is a nice change of pace from Florida, as much as I enjoy the heat at times. Surviving through the winter when it gets even colder should be a fun challenge!
