And then Friday! I came in to find Pretty Kitty in a new strange napping spot.
But she returned to her chairs soon enough.
And Freddy wandered around as usual, looking for a cool seat or someone willing to feed him. He's a sweet old man. The current best guess seems to be that he's somewhere around 18.
That afternoon we went over to see Myrtos and Pyrgos Myrtos.
Myrtos is most famous for the 'Goddess of Myrtos', a ceramic vessel of a woman that was found here.
The site was awesome and somewhat big, but as per the usual, you really have to walk around it to see it well!
There was lots of worked stone like this left at the site by the excavators. It was super cool to see!
Site site site!
This summer I have also discovered the wonders of panoramic photos. They're so nice for seeing lots at once!
Pyrgos Myrtos is another Minoan settlement site. With some more impressive architecture.
Lovely hallways...
A fabulous courtyard with a red stripe.
And stairs! I loves stairs.
It's got a pretty impressive view from its hilltop at that.
And then we got to Saturday! Saturday was a ride to the south coast and Matala. Where we stayed in a hotel with this lovely courtyard. There was so much green!
Matala is a bit of a hippy town. In that... Hippies used to live in the Roman tombs up on the cliff and that spirit lingers in the modern beach town. So all the roads and walkways were painted in big block pictures.
Of all sorts!
There's a pretty little beach and the distant hill where the tombs are.
We went a bit out of town for dinner and had a fabulous view of the coast.
The restaurant, Mystical View, is owned by two guys who used to run one in New York and the food was fabulous. There's this great old juniper in the middle of the courtyard, too. At least I think it's a juniper...
And then the sun set in all sorts of lovely colors!
We hung out back at Matala for a bit, where the hill is illuminated at night.
There's also this great boat-dock thing!
But... On to part two! I
