Eeee kitties!
Wednesday passed lazily. Work all day and then relaxing by the beach, enjoying the lovely weather.
Thursday it was back to work. I caught pretty kitty in her cave among the plastic chairs. She looks grumpy, but she's a sweetheart when she wants to be.
We headed to irapetra that afternoon to stop by an ATM. The debt crisis is worrying people here. Sunday there will be a big yes or no vote to decide what they are going to do about all of that. But! On the way home we stopped to feed a couple of fuzzy puppies in Vasiliki.
They and their mom were most happy. The puppies little tails wagged a hundred miles an hour the whole time they ate.
After work Dean and I went wandering around the nearby countryside. Our first stop was Ha Girge which is just across from us on the other side of the valley.
We scrambled up to peek into it. The Girge marks a fault line, and has been carved out by water below.
The view from it was lovely, too.
From there we went to Azoria, a neighboring excavation atop a hillside focusing on the Iron Age layers.
One if the greatest things about archaeology is seeing things like this. When you walk across that threshold, you know that people centuries ago did the exact same thing. It's so cool!
The view from the sight is fantastic, too.
In pretty much any direction!
On the way down we stopped by the 'Monumental Olive Tree of Kavousi.' It's super old and super giant.
For dinner we went to this little Panorama restaurant perched on the mountain with a great view of the sunset.
We watched the sun disappear...
And then it was time to head home!
Friday saw another day of work and the the afternoon spent in Aios Nikolaos. We wandered around, stopping by the harbor.
There was this nifty evil eye planter with a baby olive tree in it.
And this fantastic cafe smothered in lovely flowering vines.
Our wandering also took us past some fancy staircases.
Which were lovely! Even this one with a telephone pole in front of it.
We wandered past the water after dinner...
And watched the city light up for the night.
There was some sort of gathering as we left, probably about the vote on Sunday. The ride home was beautiful, though. The full moon rise huge and orange between the mountains, and we played hide and seek with it as it ducked in and out of view. Tomorrow brings the weekend, yay! I hope all is well at home!
